The Kubernetes & CI/CD series follows Sudo's journey: Dockerizing Laravel, building LKE clusters on Linode, writing Helm charts, building Bitbucket and GitLab CI pipelines, NFS storage, Prometheus monitoring and ...
After leaving ingress-nginx, the biggest Gateway API problem on a cluster with many websites is certificates: when many sites write to one Gateway, they overwrite each other. NGINX Gateway Fabric with...
The ingress-nginx project has been retired by Kubernetes and no longer ships security patches. The controller still runs, but any vulnerability found from now on will not be fixed, so every cluster us...
Once the operations pipelines for websites on Kubernetes are running smoothly in GitLab CI, the next question is usually not "which tool should we rewrite them in", but "how do operators run them safe...
Replacing an old monitoring stack with kube-prometheus-stack usually looks very smooth: the install command reports Install complete, Prometheus comes up, Grafana is reachable, every pod is Running. B...
Building a new Kubernetes cluster for a microservice project can take several weeks if you do every step by hand, or only about half a day if every component has been standardized in advance. The diff...
As you pack websites more tightly onto each Kubernetes node, you will need a resource buffer: headroom so that one site suddenly bloating its RAM does not push the whole node into memory pressure, or...
When a cluster runs dozens to hundreds of websites, a backup pipeline that processes sites one by one no longer makes sense: every site has to compress its web directory, dump its database and push to...
Moving one website from a VPS to Kubernetes is not hard. Moving dozens of websites without interrupting any of them takes a process. This document describes a process for migrating websites from VPS t...
The simplest way to attach website data to a pod is to declare an NFS volume directly in the Deployment: one server line, one path line, and you are done. That works, but there is nowhere to put mount...
The fastest way to get a database for websites on a cluster is to run MySQL right inside it: a StatefulSet, data on Block Storage, websites connecting through internal DNS. But after running it for a...
Once one product runs well on Helm, other Laravel projects want to move to Kubernetes too. Copying the chart and editing it by hand is the fastest way, but it produces many near-identical copies that...
Open Cloud Manager, click through creating a cluster, create an NFS machine, then SSH in to install the rest: doing it once is quick, doing it a second time is where mistakes start. This document show...
As the number of sites on the cluster grows, the question "what just went wrong with this site" starts to eat time: you have to find the right namespace and the right pod, run kubectl logs, and if the...
